Praful Patel’s Mumbai home worth ₹ 180 crore is reclaimed after the Probe Agency deems their actions as “illegal”.

Praful Patel, a politician from the NCP, has received a major relief as a Mumbai court has overturned an Enforcement Directorate order.
– The order sought to attach properties worth over ₹180 crore that belonged to Patel.
– The Appellate Tribunal, which deals with the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act, made the decision.
– Praful Patel represents the NCP in the Rajya Sabha, led by Ajit Pawar, who is now part of Maharashtra’s Mahayuti coalition with the BJP and Shiv Sena.
– Previously, the ED had seized two floors of Ceejay House in Worli, Mumbai, owned by Patel and his family.
– These apartments, valued at around ₹180 crore, are registered under the name of Patel’s wife and his company.
– The ED alleged that the properties were acquired illegally from Hajra Memon, the widow of Iqbal Mirchi, a drug mafia associated with Dawood Ibrahim.
– The tribunal rejected the ED’s attachment order, stating that the properties were not involved in money laundering and were not linked to Mirchi.
– The tribunal also mentioned that the property owned by Ms. Memon and her sons was separately attached, so there was no need for double attachment of the Patels’ property.
– The ED had claimed that Patel bought the plot from Ms. Memon, who has been declared a fugitive along with her sons.
